Library and Borrowing Books
Library
Our school library is a welcoming space where children can enjoy reading and explore books that interest them. It plays an important role in supporting our reading curriculum and encouraging reading for pleasure across the school.
All children from Reception to Year 4 have a weekly lunchtime library session, supported by our trained Year 5 and 6 librarians. These librarians help younger children to choose and return books, and many enjoy reading stories aloud to them during the session. This shared reading time helps build confidence and community across the school.
Children in Years 5 and 6 can also visit the library to change books as needed. Alongside the central library, each classroom has a reading area with a good selection of books that children are welcome to borrow. Every class also has an Amazon Wishlist shared via the class newsletter, and we appreciate any donations that help us continue to grow our book collections.
Reading for pleasure is central to our approach. Children who read regularly and widely develop stronger language skills, greater confidence, and improved outcomes across the curriculum. Just as importantly, we want children to enjoy books – whether they’re discovering how things work, escaping into a great story, or sharing a funny poem with a friend.
To help families at home, we’ve created a list of recommended reads for each age group – these can be found on the Helping with Reading section of the website.
